Concept of Predestination in Islam
What is Predestination? The concept of destiny means that Allah decreed everything before he created the world. Allah said: “Indeed, all things We created with predestination.” [al-Qamar: 49] However, Allah also gave us the free will and we live in a world of cause and effect. So, whatever we choose, and seek to achieve, we will attain it. An example is that; Allah decreed that so and so will have children. If that person does not get married, then he will not get any children, Similarly, a person cannot say that Allah knows the time of my death, and then he goes to lie down in the highway. That will be foolishness because the cars will smash him. One more example in this regard is that; you have to study if you want to pass the exam. The means of passing exam is studying. If you do not study, you will fail. So, Allah has decreed everything doesn't mean that effort is not required.
